Spring break 2018

We decided to go to the zoo (with the entire state of Utah) with our favorite friends, the Maynes. Both of us ended up buying season passes which will be fun!
Kate was worried she'd get lost because there were so many people there so we found a solution to the problem...

 Jonah wasn't too sure.
It was so funny though. We say by the elepahnts to eat our lunch because it was a pretty empty spot. While we were eating the elephants came over so it got more crowded. Jonah looked up and saw the elephant close up for the first time and slowly started backing away then finally ran to Trav. Ha ha!

Then, this lady came over by me, and her daughter asked if they could eat lunch by the elephants too. And she kind of rudely (and loudly) said that "we are not eating over here by the elephant smell. It's disgusting." As she was saying this I totally took a bite of my sandwich.

The next day we went on a hike to Antelope Island. The goal was to get to the highest peak on the island which is about 6 miles round trip. Here's a "happy and the beginning of the trail" picture.
 *kind of happy
 Then we were off!

 We took lots of breaks,

 Picked some flowers,
Jonah even walked for part of it,
and had lots of treats in our pockets.

We found a great spot to stop for lunch.

The kids were discussing how Josh was all alone on his rock to eat and the others were all together. Will said, "I'm not alone, I've got Kate!" It was super cute.
I love that boy and all his quirkiness.

The higher up we got the more tired some of us got. Kate was dragging. At one point Will was complaining about carrying his backpack and Kate said, "Will I'll carry it for you if you go catch up to dad." He started running up the mountain so fast it was like one of those cartoons. It was so hilarious that Kate and I couldn't stop laughing about it. By the time he caught up to dad he totally forgot that he was supposed to be complaining and was fine the rest of the time.
We were a little under a mile shy of reaching the top but decided to start heading home. I don't think everyone could have made it and we had to get back for Kate's piano lesson.

It was such a perfect hike. I love how quiet it is there and my kids were all planning not only a return trip to complete that hike, but also a place to build our house.

The cabin

We knew with spring break we needed to get into the mountains and head to the cabin. We saw birds and squirrels.
  Read lots of books....
 Played with toys...
 So cozy!
We  even went on a few long, muddy, cold hikes.
Trav was a genius and brought the jogging stroller so Jonah could make it all the way around the block without us having to carry him!

We did let him loose to get some wiggles out when it was flat.
The kids found the coolest ice. It was thin as paper.

 Someone liked the mud puddles.

Even in the winter there's monkeys in the trees.

It was funny (but not funny) that Kate had an accident while wearing her raccoon jammies, We rinsed them out and hung them by the fire to dry. I thought it looked like a coon skin drying.
There's even a gang up there!
We watched movies, played games (I totally crushed everyone in Risk, I might add) and just enjoyed some quiet time together as a family. But maybe not too quiet with this cheeseball.....

Trav had to leave early to go to work so the kids and I stopped at the train for lunch. We HAD to.
