School, soccer and sillies

I know it's been a while...... I'm going to start with the sillies. It always amazes me at what they say and what is going on in their little heads. Last night completely out of the blue Josh said, "We don't eat dolphins.....or whales." We were driving in the car and had not been talking about anything to do with water or fish or even eating for that matter. And then a few hours later Rach said, "I want a mustache!" Seriously I don't know what they are thinking about at any given time.I thought this one was cute of Rach and Josh though.
A couple weeks ago Rach started soccer! I know I'm more excited than she is. Their team name is the ladybugs and they are so cute! We need to work on Rach's aggressive bone because I don't think she has one yet. But surprisingly enough they are undefeated. They actually are really good......if only Rach would get in there......
This is what I walked into the other day. They were having story time and I think the audience is very attentive.

This one on the other hand, had just had it! You should have seen the lines on her face after this nap.

About a week ago I looked out the window and there was a hot air balloon right across the street at the park! The kids were still in bed so I woke them up and we ran over there to see it. It was really cool. They went up and down a couple of times and then we got to see them deflate it. I have no idea why the balloon was there but we had fun looking at it.

Last year when I was Primary President of our old ward we gave all the primary kids a challenge to read the book of Mormon with their families and anyone that accomplished this goal we would make them a giant cookie. Well, after a year and a half of reading (yes it took us a long time) we did it! We made it all the way through! Even though we are not in the ward anymore we kept good on our promise and made some giant cookies for the kids. And even better, we now are totally in the habit of reading scriptures every night. I definitely recommend this method to those of you wanting your kids to read.

Then of course Rach started kindergarten! I can't believe she's out in the real world now. She absolutely loves it and is having the best time. She was so excited to go and now she feels like such a big girl.

And last but not least......Kate finally got her pink frames on her glasses. They are so cute and girly and I love them, but even better news....she doesn't need glasses anymore! She had her pink frames (which I've had ordered for months, they just took forever to come in) for about 2 weeks then I took her to her eye appointment. He just ranted and raved at how good she was doing and said she didn't even need the glasses anymore. Needlesstosay we were thrilled since she didn't keep them on anyway. But sad because we only had the pink ones for such a short time. Oh well, she'll get a kick out of them when she's older. It's a nice keepsake. Here's at least a shot of her cute pink glasses. You can tell she's thrilled to have them on.

She's not quite crawling yet but scoots around on her big belly so nothing is safe anymore. She is seriously the happiest baby and I couldn't be happier that her eyes are going to be okay.

Bear Lake

Okay, here we go again! Here's our cute little Kate who is growing by the minute.

We spent this past week in Bear Lake for the Maughan family reunion. I am so lucky to have the best in-laws of all time. We had the best time and stayed up so late playing games and laughing. Here's a few highlights of the week. This picture was after Josh's 3rd twinkie.

Here's some little baby toes in the sand.

Here's Kate playing with her cute cousin Kalli. Yes she is bundled up because it was freezing cold that day and even rained. Don't worry, we still spent the entire day at the beach, rain or shine.

We built lots of sandcastles.....

Josh played with the boats and trucks.....

One of the days we went up to Bloomington Lake. We went last year too but I didn't get to go off the rope swing because I was pregnant. I wanted to so bad because it looked like so much fun. So we went again this year. If you've ever been to Bloomington you'll know what I'm talking about....

Last year the rope swing was big and you could start from higher up to get a big swing, or start from lower down if you didn't want quite a ride, but either way it would shoot you clear out into the freezing water. Well....this year that swing had been cut down and someone put it on the other side of the tree. This side of the tree has one spot to go off from which was pretty high and was a narrow opening to jump through. It really didn't shoot you out into to lake too far and there were lots of rocks in the water so it was a little trickier this year. It was kind of scary but I still wanted to do it. Here is a picture of Trav doing the swing...very graceful yes.....

And here's one of me....

Not so graceful. Notice all the rocks? Well, almost as soon as I had taken off, my hands slipped off the rope. At least I did land in the water, but remember how I said it was shallow and there were lots of rocks? Luckily my foot stopped the fall. I know it could have been a lot worse but it resulted in a broken toe and a horrible bruise on my foot to the point where it felt better to walk tiptoe on the broken toe than to walk normally. Yeah....no more wakeboarding for me.

The picture doesn' t look too bad, but it is after 4 days of healing. No more wakeboarding, but that doesn't mean I can't tube! It was Josh's 1st year doing the tube and he liked it!

It's swamp thing!

And a vacation isn't complete without a good book. Okay y'all whose read the Hunger Games? This was book 2 and I couldn't put it down. Only 2 more weeks for book 3.......
I love Bear Lake, the raspberry shakes, the sand, sun, wakeboarding, tubing and everything else in between.

fun fun fun!

Is summer almost over? I think I blinked and that was that. It's good we've had a lot of fun. This past week was my family reunion. It was a stay-cation to do some things we don't get to do around here too much. We had a tour of the conference center from my mom who is a host missionary there.

We also spent a night at Little America. It was totally worth it alone for the pool access and to see my kids turn from being totally afraid of the water, to fish. I was so proud of them and by the end they jumped in all by themselves and went all the way under. This is a milestone at the Maughan household.

We liked the super-cozy beds and staying up late watching nature shows too.

Kate had a good time at this is the place heritage park (even though it was like a thousand degrees).

But I have to admit that the highligt was Cherry Hill. Since that's only like 2 minutes away from my house I'm going to have to invest in season passes in the future. Woot woo swimsuit girl! It was so fun to see my sisters and their families to to just be bums for a few days.

This is what happens when you leave the room for a few minutes and think to yourself, "It's so nice that Kate isn't really mobile yet...I wonder when we'll have to start baby-proofing the house?"

She rolled across the room to get a watercolor picture Josh had done. He was in tears. I hope it's non-toxic.

Then on the 24th we decided to do a family hike up Centerville canyon. There was tons of posion ivy and we even saw a rattlesnake. A family friendly hike for sure.

If you get offended by nudity you better stop reading now. This is what happens when I bring up the wrong underwear for Josh to wear. Notice how they are thrown in the background. All the superhero squad ones were in the wash and The Incredibles just wouldn't do. He's really wierd when it comes to clothes. I hope it's not a bad sign for the future......this tantrum lasted at least 30 minutes. I thought the girls were supposed to be the drama queens?

And last but not least we did our first family camping trip. We went up Farmington Canyon. We had a blast despite a million bugs. The highlight was playing in the tent and a hike up to the beaver ponds. Kate had the best time. I think she'll be a hiker when she gets bigger because she laughed the whole time we were hiking.

Little Einstein

We had a wonderful 4th of July this year. It started off with the good ol' Centerville breakfast, parade and carnival. We got so much taffy it started coming out our ears! I have to thank Matt Flanders for giving us an entire bag of candy (still in the package and everything).

Okay, I can't figure out how to rotate this one of Kate in her 4th of July duds, but it's still cute. Just lay your head on the desk for a minute to appreciate it.

Here's another cute one of Kate. Okay, every picture of Kate is cute so I keep throwing them in. We started her on the medicine to shrink the hemangioma and after 2 days I could already tell a difference. Now she's been on it for a few weeks it's almost gone. You can hardly even tell it's there. Thank heavens for modern medicine! Which eye do you think has a hemangioma? Can you tell? I thought not.

We did have to get her glasses. It's really amazing that she's pretty good at leaving them on. I think she looks so cute (and smart) in them. We get stopped everywhere we go....."where did you find glasses that small?" I should start charging a dollar every time I hear that....we'd get to go to Disneyland in no time at all!

Rach and Josh just adore her. In this picture they said "Kate is on t.v.!" and they just sat there and watched her for a while.

This is usually the face we get.....tongue out and a look of "why do I have these things on my face again?" I don't know how much they are actually helping because they usually have a fingerprint or a lick-mark on them.

We took a little trip up to Silver Lake last week. Rach found a patch of dry dirt in the shape of a heart. She said whoever stood in it was in love. She's already a hopeless romantic. She even fell in love last week with a priest from our ward. They came to help chop down some more trees and by the end of the night she said to me "Mom, I'm in love with that boy. He's so nice! But you can't tell him!" Be afraid for me when the teenage years hit.

Who is peeking through that rock?

It is always so gorgeous up there.

And there was even some snow left!

Here's one last one for the road. My 3 little stooges. I'm so lucky.
